A low-profile leather tarot card holder display for your altar. This handmade tarot altar stand features a full-width groove that holds up to three cards upright (portrait)—ideal for daily pulls, three-card spreads, or showcasing a favourite archetype. Two 40 mm wells suit LED tealights to add a warm, flame-free glow, and a third shallow recess keeps small knick-knacks like crystals, charms, or rings tidy. Handmade in England from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather with carefully finished, edge-painted edges for a clean, minimal look.

Inspiration

I've seen lots of different wooden varieties during my research, and I felt inspired to create my own interpretation of the 3-card tarot alter stand using techniques that I've been honing.

  3. Certificate of Authenticity
  4. Two Polaroid photos taken during the crafting process (an extra keepsake for scrapbooking)

How it's made

The decorative front is made from full-grain 5oz (2.5mm) vegetable-tanned leather. I've carefully finished the leather to achieve a rich, wooden sheen that enhances its natural beauty. Beneath it, I’ve sandwiched a layer of coloured suede so that three shallow recesses in the top reveal the suede detail: two 40 mm wells sized for LED tealights (not included) and one trinket recess for small keepsakes such as crystals or charms. Along the back edge, the two top sections are spaced to create a full-width groove (≈2 mm wide × ≈3 mm deep) that lets you stand up to three cards in portrait.

The reverse side is also full-grain 5 oz (2.5 mm) veg-tan, finished to complement the front and debossed with the Midlands Apothecary logo for a discreet maker’s mark.

The leather layers are bonded with water-based contact cement, then hand-sewn where applicable for durability. Edges are burnished and edge-painted with leather acrylic for a clean, protective finish. This meticulous process enhances the stand’s longevity and showcases the craftsmanship in each piece.

Approximate Dimensions

  • The dimensions of the stand are 225mm tall by 130mm wide by 6mm thick.

Natural Leather Characteristics

  • The colour of your leather piece may differ slightly from what you see on your screen.
  • Due to the dyeing process, the colour may vary slightly depending on the area of the leather.
  • As full-grain leather undergoes minimal processing, natural wrinkles may remain visible and their patterns can vary from piece to piece.
  • With natural leather, some blemishes are to be expected, though I always do my best to keep these to a minimum.

Safety Information

Designed for adult decorative or ritual use. Not suitable for children. May contain small parts that could present a choking hazard. Keep away from fire and moisture. Read more in my Safety & Compliance Policy.
