Leather Desk Mat (Rio Edition)

Available in different sizes to be used as a Leather Desk Mat or Mouse Pad.

The photos depict the 30x45cm (11.8x17.7inch) size.

The smooth surface of the leather has been oiled to create a lovely waxy drag feel. When stretched or pulled, the pull-up effect causes the leather to lighten in colour creating a distressed or antique finish, enabling the creation of authentic, rustic looking leather goods.

Inspiration

I recently started to experiment with different types of leather. When I was prototyping with this Rio Pull-Up leather, I fell in love with the waxy texture and stress marks. I tried to find ways to create large items that would show off the natural look, which is what inspired me to create Desk Mats and Mouse Pads.

How it's made

Each piece takes a cut from the Waxy Pull-Up Full Grain Leather. The corners are rounded off and the entire edge is sanded. Once the sanding is complete, the sharp edges are removed using an edge beveller. The exposed edge is then dyed in dark brown. Once the dye has had time to dry, a top stitch is added for decoration using Mara 30 thread.
