A pocket handmade full-grain leather tarot mat, designed for laying out tarot cards during readings. The tarot mat displays etched designs to protect your cards and enhances the overall tarot experience.
As this piece is Natural (undyed), it means the patina will deepen over time and use, which will add character.
Inspiration
When I was originally prototyping designs for leather tarot mats, I played with the idea of something efficient to craft, small, portable and affordable. With efficiency in mind, I figured I would try making a piece with no dye - And I was blown away with how great it looked! I also know that the natural leather is going to look even better as it gets worn in, due to the natural patina and colour change.

How it's made
The decorative front is made from full-grain 5oz (2.5mm) vegetable-tanned leather. I've carefully finished the leather to achieve a rich, wooden sheen that enhances its natural beauty. The intricate decoration has been achieved with a light pass with a laser etcher. The central tarot card slot width was precisely measured to fit standard-sized (70mm x 120mm) tarot cards, providing a snug placement for your card draws.
The reverse side features full-grain 5oz (2.5mm) vegetable-tanned leather, also finished to complement the front. I've embossed it with the Midlands Apothecary logo, adding a personal and authentic touch to the mat.
To bring the two pieces of leather together, they are adhered with water-based contact cement. The edges are carefully hand-painted in leather acrylic paint for both visual appearance and protection. This meticulous process not only ensures the mat's longevity but also highlights the quality of the piece.

- The dimensions of the mat are 190mm wide by 100mm tall by 6mm thick.
- The central card placement is 70mm wide, which is ideal for the most common size of tarot card.

- The colour of your leather piece may differ slightly from what you see on your screen.
- Due to the dyeing process, the colour may vary slightly depending on the area of the leather.
- As full-grain leather undergoes minimal processing, natural wrinkles may remain visible and their patterns can vary from piece to piece.
- With natural leather, some blemishes are to be expected, though I always do my best to keep these to a minimum.

Made-to-order items take approximately 7-10 working days to produce. The production process involves multiple stages, including tooling, dyeing, and antiquing, which require 2-3 days of drying time before assembly and packaging.
