A handmade full-grain leather zodiac wheel mat, artfully etched with all 12 astrological signs to serve as a versatile divination and meditation tool. Use it as a structured backdrop for tarot spreads—lay out planetary positions, perform a 12-sign draw, or create moon-phase and elemental rituals with your favourite crystals. The rich, tactile vegetable-tanned leather not only protects your cards and tokens but also elevates your spiritual practice with timeless elegance and lasting durability.
The patina on the Natural (undyed) version will deepen over time and use, adding more character.
Inspiration
The idea was inspired by traditional zodiac circles. With this piece, I was of the mindset that I didn't want the mat to feel too overwhelming due to a busy design. There is something to be said for "less is more", and it genuinely pays off.

- Certificate of Authenticity
- Two Polaroid photos taken during the crafting process (an extra keepsake for scrapbooking)

Compatibility
This leathercraft item is compatible with all solid brass coins sold by Midlands Apothecary. This means you can swap out existing coins you own, or plan to purchase in the future.
Coin Details
If you choose the coin version, this is what the coin reads:
- Side A: Reads "Yes", "Midlands Apothecary & Leather Crafting"
- Side B: Reads "No", "This divination coin is aligned with {Custom Name}"
Variant Differences
- With Coin: Includes a cut-out for an etched 40mm solid brass divination coin. All solid brass coins I sell are compatible with the cut-out, so you can collect and swap any coins you own. The centre piece is lined with coloured pig-suede.
- Without Coin: No cut-out is made, and no coin is included.
How it's made
The decorative front is made from full-grain 5oz (2.5mm) vegetable-tanned leather. I've carefully finished the leather to achieve a rich, oaky sheen that enhances its natural beauty. The intricate decoration has been achieved with a light pass with a laser etcher.
The coin version has a cut-out that allows the solid brass coin to be press fit into place. Lined within the cut-out is a round piece of pig suede. This allows the piece to still look complete when there is no coin seated in place.
The reverse side features full-grain 5oz (2.5mm) vegetable-tanned leather, also finished to complement the front. I've stamped it with the Midlands Apothecary logo, adding a personal and authentic touch to the mat.
To bring the two pieces of leather together, they are adhered with water-based contact cement. The edges are carefully hand-painted in leather acrylic paint for both visual appearance and protection. This meticulous process not only ensures the mat's longevity but also highlights the quality of the piece.
Approximate Dimensions
- The dimensions of the mat are 180mm wide by 180mm tall by 6mm thick.
- The dimensions of the optional coin as 40mm (3mm thick)
Natural Leather Characteristics
Natural Leather Characteristics
- The colour of your leather piece may differ slightly from what you see on your screen.
- Due to the dyeing process, the colour may vary slightly depending on the area of the leather.
- As full-grain leather undergoes minimal processing, natural wrinkles may remain visible and their patterns can vary from piece to piece.
- With natural leather, some blemishes are to be expected, though I always do my best to keep these to a minimum.
