A leather passport suitable for both US and UK size passports. The entire piece is made from cuts of Saffiano leather. Saffiano is a vegetable tanned leather from Conceria Il Ponte in Italy, embossed with a fine Saffiano cross-grain pattern.
Inspiration
This piece was originally designed with the intent of giving away as a gift for a groom at his wedding. I originally considered a wallet, but those items tend to turn out better when you collaborate with the client. As this was a surprise, I wanted to be able to take risks with colours and designs. And so, the Saffiano passport cover was born.

How it's made
The piece is made from three cuts of leather. I use two or three colours with complimentary coloured thread. Once cut, the internal cut-outs are sanded, bevelled and burnished.
Each piece is then adhered along the edges using water-based contact adhesive. Once dry, the holes for the thread are punched into the leather. The thread is then hand-stitched using 0.8mm Tiger Thread.
The thread is then hammered to lower the profile of the thread. Finally, the edges of the cover are sanded, bevelled and burnished. The process may take up to two hours to craft.

- Due to the dyeing process, the colour may vary slightly depending on the area of the leather.
- As full-grain leather undergoes minimal processing, natural wrinkles may remain visible and their patterns can vary from piece to piece.
- With natural leather, some blemishes are to be expected, though I always do my best to keep these to a minimum.

Made-to-order items take approximately 7-10 working days to produce. The production process involves multiple stages, including tooling, dyeing, and antiquing, which require 2-3 days of drying time before assembly and packaging.
